Soda firing rings pulled from the kiln to determine what to atmosphere is like in the kiln. On each of these rings is a glaze, the same glaze in fact and as you can see, as the temperature increases and more soda is placed in the kiln either in packets or burritos or sprayed in the kiln, we can watch as kiln goes in and out of reduction – there is copper in the glaze and when reduced of oxygen in the kiln the copper turns a red or blush or pink colour and when we are back in an oxidized atmosphere, the greens and turquoise will start to show.
