Cori Sandler - I am a Potter living in the beautiful West Coast of Canada on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada.  As a BC potter, my pottery studio looks out onto Baynes Sound in the Comox Valley and overlooks the Gulf Islands of Denman and Hornby Island. As I walk on the beach, I can collect oyster shells by the ... well, there sure is an abundance of oysters just outside my studio.

My studio and the surrounding ocean and mountains is a place where I make pottery that nourishes the soul and feeds the heart and smiles back at you.   In essence I get to play in the mud all day long and does that ever make me a very happy woman! Cori Sandler couldn't be a happier potter. Making pottery all day long and hearing eagles singing is pretty magical!

The pottery of Cori Sandler is predominantly functional, making the ritual of cooking and eating, sharing food with friends and family & using handmade tableware and dinnerware a beautiful and enjoyable experience. You will find my cone 6 functional pottery is uniquely decorated, with multiple layers of coloured slips and glazes. Some of the designs I create on my pottery bring joy and giggles out of those who use them - I take on the task of making functional pottery as a very serious responsibility however, in that if you are to invest in having me join you and your family, and guests on a daily basis in your kitchens and dining rooms, I want you to really adore the pots, and know that I have taken my 'job' as YOUR POTTER, to make beautiful forms, that you will get much enjoyment out of, and I have painted/glazed and or decorated the pots with careful consideration to the form that the decoration sits upon so that it is a well integrated piece of art that you get to use on a daily basis.

Of course there is a place for 'high art' that may sit on your mantle, or on your bookshelf that remains a piece of visual beauty or interest, but the notion of waking up and strolling into the kitchen for your first cup of tea or coffee when your eyes are hardly open and you know another day awaits you with all the trials and difficulties that you may have to manage... and you have a choice of which mug you are going to pour that first cup of java in, and it is that cup of min that you choose to use. You may have bought from me either personally at an art show, or through an online purchase or through a shop or gallery and I truly am humbled that you have chosen to spend that quiet or perhaps it is fast and furious moment, with a piece of my work in hand, perhaps making those minutes that you have before your day begins a little more enjoyable.

I make bright fun funky colourful pottery (all food safe and dishwasher safe) and I also make potter that is quiet and somber and asks you the use to reflect and take some time to caress the pieces and feel their curves, and textures. The ocean floor seems to have found it's way on some of my wood fired pottery, meaning that my pots reflect the imagery of the texture of the sand as the tide moves over the beach and the movement of the waves, can be felt under the glazes. Their glazes are rich and deep and one can spend a long time looking at a piece and seeing something a little different in it each time they look at it.

Some would say that their pieces of Cori Sandler Pottery are some of their most favourite pieces of pottery in their home.

Take a wander through the gallery pages to see some of the different designs I have worked on and am currently working on.  Perhaps you will be so inclined to inquire about a piece or two and make an online purchase or come and visit me at my studio. Perhaps you may want to sign up for a pottery class or creative workshop. The classes are fun and all you have to bring to the pottery classes is your imagination and willingness to explore.

A world without art, is a world ... without!
