Another flanged wall clay-painting/bowl from my Salish sea series. Another example of what may possibly be under the waters of the ocean you can use this and hang on the wall too.

There is something about a wide flanged bowl that I love. If you look at the edges you’ll see what looks like the sandy beach as the ocean pulls way. I live by the ocean has definitely had an influence on my mark making and my colour palette as well. The loose slip trailed lines of clay remind me of the whip of a fish tale as it cuts through the surface of the sea. Or… Perhaps it’s an iteration of bull kelp. Hmmm what do you think? find me on periscope under Cori Sandler Pottery with the handle @CoriSandler

I so love. This bowl started as a 25 lb lump of clay. Cone up and down. Centre. Open. Compress the bottom. Pull up the walls shape the walls. Slow down the wheel because centrifugal force want a to slam that bowl to the walls of my studio. Compress the rim. Remove it from the whee fornpartial drying until leather hard or hard cheese dryness. Get somebody to help turn that baby upside down onto another bat for trimming. La La la la and so it goes #@CoriSandler on periscope. If you were following @corisclay on periscope, please also follow me -Still Cori Sandler Pottery but new handle @CoriSandler. Sorry for the confusion all Who else loves to trim??????

Freshly thrown pottery. Flanged wall plates. The start of the clay painting series. I start these pieces by throwing them off a hump of clay. Using a metal rib, I flatten the walls of this pot down and the rib held on just the right position, chatters the flange making small lines similar to the ridges on the beach after the ocean has receded from the shore
