Love@early morning light streaming into the studio. Best time of day, hearing the eagles and the small birds chirping away while everything and everyone is still asleep – at least in my house. This is a white slip I am painting on this leatherhard just trimmed pot. The clay is a soft buff colour with tiny iron specs on top n it. I am not yet sure how I am going to glaE but thinking of keeping the carved part bare and the whites slip a satin whitish. Or a soft denim blue, or a glittery tenmoku. Or … a myriad of colours creating a landscape of colours on the top portion. Any thoughts???? By #corisandlerpottery

And now… it’s little sister. These custom mugs feel so good I. The hand and I’m really please with how they all came out. The glaze feels great and though shiny, it’s more of a strong satin smooth finish. Thanks to #diamondcoretools for sanding pads to make the bottoms nice and smooth. Shhh, truth be told I also do a light sanding if the logo so that it too feels soft when you touch it. I want the whole user experience to feel great. Everything from drinking it and finding the little dimple in the side, and rubbing your fingers over it, the washing it and it being smooth all over. #squadron422 search and rescue. I love a good handle! Handles can make or break a really lovely mug. I usually pull my handles directly off the pot. This means that I stick a a lug or section of clay onto a leather hard mug – usuallybwith magic water (a mixture including sodium silicate and soda ash) five it a few seconds to get to know each other (the pot and the lug) and then begin to pull the handle. I do t like handles that are too thin, cause the weight of a liquid filled mug is too unbalanced if the handle is too skinny. Likewise, you don’t want it to thick or heavy cause well, that just feels unnecessary and not graceful enough. There is a goldilocks kind of handle, a “just right” kind of handle. You must be mindful not to make the interior shape too large, as the balance of the mug is them all wrong with too much weight in the vessel side and not balanced between the vessel and handle, making it heavier to hold than needs be. It’s also important to smooth the edges of the handle as opposed to it having flat edges which hurt your fingers. These are just a few of the considerations on my mind when I make a mug handle. I do love a “just right handle and have spent lots of time making them and making all these and more considerations. I used to honestly dislike making handles, because I knew they were the least resolved part of my pot. I made a decision to spend time learning how to make a really nice comfortable resolves appropriate lovely handle. It took time and lots of practice. Don’t give up. Practice practice practice. Oh… and then repeat! Thanks for all your past comments about my #handles. It’s really worth putting in the time.

I am the luckiest!!!! Came home after being out for one of my first “out days” since surgery to find a rather unexpected parcel. I didn’t remember ordering anything, so I began to open this parcel. @tony_bokhoven – you’re such a doll. I love these little shoes – and I feel entirely spoiled by your kindness. I got the sweetest note telling me a few things including how much joy you get from my mugs that are now your mugs. Your note and your friendship bring me much delight. Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness.

My moms the best. Long awaited Surgery for me tomorrow at 9 am (think good vibes for me) and she’s gonna be here to help. I will have to be living pretty low for about 2 months. No lifting pulling or pushing anything more than a couple lbs. (that’s gonna be hard but I’ve been read the riot act and will behave!!!). So… one more sleep and then here we go. @corisandlerpottery and @sandyklein39 hanging out together. I love that woman!!!!!

Time carved out of your week just for yourself. Make your own mugs and bowls and vases and plates and platters and … you get the picture. Wheel throwing and hand building. Small classes for maximum attention. I still have a few spots left, and would love to share my love of clay with you. Get ready to have fun. @corisandlerpottery. Term runs for 8 weeks, 1 2.5 hour class/week. DM me or he’d to corisandler.com from bio for more info.

@corisandlerpottery. Whisky/bourbon/wine/juice cups. These were thrown off the hump and one of them lost its secure vacuum hold while trimming and instead went flying off the wheel and got a bit banged up. Thought I’d make some lemonade from lemons so to speak. If you look back a few posts you can see the “fly from the wheel during trimming”. This is the result. Ended up with a whole new series I now call Mossy Shores. What do ya think?

#corisandlerpottery. This is my sea kelp series. Walking along the beach here on the west coast, I often sea bull kelp floating in the ocean. The first time I say it I kid you not, I thought it looked like mammoth slip trailing (pottery on the brain syndrome), then one day, there it was on my pots. How the migration if what I see around me gets into my work always surprises me cause honestly, I don’t think it’s intentional. However, I am delighted nonetheless. we all go through changes in our work over time and I must say as I grow older or more mature in my work, I kind of like howbthebinterpretation if thatvwhichbinfluences me is more of a feeing than a literal interpretation or depiction. Don’t get me wrong, I still love flowers and trees and my naked ladybseries, but there is a calm and a “flavour” to these more recent bodies of work. I’d love your thoughts about it. Feel free to chime in. I’ll be at #thepottersplacegallery this Saturday afternoon Nov 3 from 1-5. It’s at the corner of 5th and Cliffe in #courtenay if you want to come by and say hi. I’d love to see you of course. Oh… and if this post isn’t long enough… just a reminder if you want to get your hands dirty and learn to make pottery, check out my website in the bio for info about Cori’s Clay Class here in the #comoxvalley Valley

#corisandlerpottery @thepottersplacegallery in #courtenaybc throughout November. Installed the show last night. It’s always like a puzzle, setting up a display. What looks best where, and which series of work compliments another series visually. This is just some of what my show looks like. Lots of Mugs of course in different series. And a few brand new works as well including Winter Wave. More on that in a different post. If you are in or near the Comox Valley, iF love to invite you to head over to The Potters Place Gallery at the corner of 5th and Cliffe. It’s lovely to be featured this month along with Joe Stefiuk who makes awesome masks and whale tales and more.

By #corisandlerpottery new series is born… “mossy shores” #mugshotmonday I live by the ocean and some days it’s wild out there while other days it’s calm. Thheee mugs kind of depict a sense of what I see when I walk on the beach. The sand swirling under the tide, the sea foam sitting up on a windy day. I am so lucky to live where I do. Do you like this series? Do you feel the name is fitting? Any other suggestions? These will be at #thepottersplacegallery in courtenay BC starting November 1 when I will be one of the featured artists Along with the amazing Joe Stefiuk. Be sure to swing by the corner of 5th and Cliffe if you are near to the Comox Valley during November … and of course beyond that too.

Cinderella mugs by @corisandlerpottery finally out of the kiln. Not too many but some new glazes. @thepottersplacegallery is having an opening reception tonight 4-7pm (oct 4) in #courtenaybc at the corner of 5th and Cliffe for its biennial drinking vessel show. I’m so proud to be a part of this awesome event of mugs and cups and steins from artists all over BC. If your in the #comoxvalley. Come on down. The show and sale runs through October.

love making folks happy. Such a thoughtful post. Enjoy !!! #Repost @amandaritchieartist with @get_repost・・・Happy Early Birthday prezzie to me 😬 I couldn’t leave @thepottersplacegallery without this beauty today. Such a thought out piece. There’s a thumb rest on top of the handle, a pinky rest under the handle and if you wrap your left hand around the other side to hold with both hands your left thumb has a comfy little divot and middle finger has a spot too round other side. This week I am starting a pottery course I have been signing up for years (and there is never enough people to fill the class) well this time it’s a go and I am so so inspired! @corisandlerpottery #mugbellybutton #prettypottery

Left my cookie on for a bit too long. Sometimes I don’t use bat pins and a bat with holes in it. I just go old school and throw a flat cookie, like a plate and then make rings and an x through it to help suction larger bats on my wheel. I used to use y fist to then punch down in the centre to secure it but years ago I changed that habit and now use a rubber mallet. It doesn’t take a lot to secure a bat, old habits are hard to break though

Had an important convo with a dear friend today. She’s very determined to be LIKED by everyone around her. The approval of others is very important to her. I think many of us have a need to be accepted and liked however, I’ll suggest spending so much energy on trying to make people like ya, can sure put a dent in enjoying the life right in front of you. It’s great to be kind and inclusive and gracious and all those things our mothers taught us to be … but you just can’t please everyone and everyone isn’t gonna be your best friend. Don’t let that stop you from living your best life! Oh and by the way, this series is called sea foam – okay. Off my soap box now.

Sea kelp series. Yesterday I went for a walk in the beach with a dear friend and found a great big piece of sea weed left on the beach as the tide was way out. I had my shoes off and just stood on it and squished my feet on it. How amazing is the world we live in. I know there are all kinds of things wrong with it and with us, but sometimes, you’ve just got to take in the beauty and the wonder of it all too. Balance. (Made by @corisandlerpottery)

This new series started off being called Sea Kelp but I remember heading to #goosespit which is a lovely beach nearby me one day in the winter when a storm was happening. Thebocean was being turned and churned and there was this amazing amount t of sea foam flying up onto the little road on the spit. Sea foam was flying everywhere it was absolutely amazing. These pots remind me of that day so I think I should call them my goose spit series instead if sea Kelp. Any thoughts ?
