Soda firing rings pulled from the kiln to determine what to atmosphere is like in the kiln. On each of these rings is a glaze, the same glaze in fact and as you can see, as the temperature increases and more soda is placed in the kiln either in packets or burritos or sprayed in the kiln, we can watch as kiln goes in and out of reduction – there is copper in the glaze and when reduced of oxygen in the kiln the copper turns a red or blush or pink colour and when we are back in an oxidized atmosphere, the greens and turquoise will start to show. We'll unload Monday. Likely so stay tuned. Ill do an insta live or periscope of the results. There should be a few juicy mugs to show you all. ….#sodafired #atmosphericfiring #sodaash #kiln #drawrings #pottery #ceramics #keramics #reductionfiring #oxidization #kilnfolk #contemporarycraft #yyq #nic #Canadianceramics #comoxvalley #courtenaybc #comoxvalleyartist with @jbrett_art #corisandlerpottery

All 4 loaves from this last bake. Going through them like ice cubes on a hot Tarmac- when visitors come, it's sure nice to have good bread to accompany meals #sourdoughbread #sourdough #breadlife #pottersbaketoo. You know about the roses mary olive and the sundried tomato basil. The other two loves are combo of rye, while wheat and unbleached bread flour. Each is baked at 500 degrees for 40 minutes then 50 degrees for another 25-30 minutes. Sooo good.

Sundried tomato and fresh basil from my garden in the #sourdough scrumptuous-ness. (Is that even a word) ? It was so good and actually the strength of the sundried tomatoes makes this taste a little like a #breadlife pizza bread. Learning to manage the really wet dough. Kinda hard to shape and get your hands away from the dough without itball sticking. I know I know… a little more flour dusting. Got it! The problem comes when releasing it into the hot Dutch oven -not very graceful.

2nd batch of #sourdoughbread cooled and is more dense than the first loaves. A tighter more uniform crumb like a great sandwhich bread. Super moist but not over moist and so flavourful. Developed the sour but again. Super pleasant tasting, sort of rich yet mild. I may've proofed it for the bulk fermentation a bit too long cause i think i could have gotten a bit more oven spring had i removed it for bench rise and shaping a little earlier. Still hard to know as I am such a rookie here. So many of have helped with your thoughts and experiences and some have suggested it could also be the different whole grain flours in this loaf just make a heavier bread. you more seasoned #sourdough #bread #bakers have been so delightful with your thoughts and experiences/knowledge/advice sharing. I love our community. Ill post more of this loaf in my story

Okay. I am a little #breadobsessed Here they are out of the oven now. Feeling a bit dense bit looking pretty delish. The flour was not light and airy all purpose, but 800 gm organic red fife and 300 gm organic rye so i am expecting a heavier loaf. Listen to me… like i know what the heck I am talking about. Note that these are drying with air circulation under the loaves. If I put them on a bread board to cool, they'd be moist under and have a soggy crust. #breadlove #homebaking #organicfood #wildyeast #pottersbaketoo

#sourdoughbread great #ovenspring. They start off at 500 degrees F with lid on for 30 min then another 20-30 min unlidded at 450 deg F. Ill be interested to see how these come out. The flourbis differemt than mu first batch and also I added rye to my starter. The dough looked different at all stages – bit wetter, which makes sense since i added more levain and water to the batch. Looking oretty good at this point though i must say but well see when we cut into it after a few hours of resting when it comes out Wish me luck please. #homemadebread #sourdoughbread #sourdoughbaking #breadlife #wildyeast #freshbread #yyq #islandlife

@diamondcoretools make these amazing sanding blocks. These are 120 and 240 grit. Insanely useful in any pottery studio. Talk about soft as a baby's bottom. Did I just say that? . They fit perfectly in my hand I love the corners that can really get into a nook and cranny when needed like just under the handle attachment of a mug fresh out of a wood fire. #diamondcoretools #sandingblock #smoothbottoms #potterystudio #studiolife #potterytools #bestpotterytools #favouritetools favouritepotterytools

First sourdough bread ever. This isbthe #benchrest before the final shaping. Each stage has been a slow process. I let the dough rise slowly overnight in the fridge, slowing down the fermentation process and increasing the flavours of the sour. (that's the thought). I cant begin to tell you how excited I am about finally starting down this … meditation so to speak about #sourdoughbaking #bread. @delaterrebakery OMG. Respect to you m'dear!

So… how do you reclaim your clay potters out there? After the clay trimmings rehydrating in water for quite a long time, i remove all visible water and then still allow more water to evaporate. I then take a paint mixer on the end if my drill and mix the bejeeeebeeeze out of the clay till it is smooth smooth smooth like cake batter. I then put some old cotton sheets over my plaster bats and pour the mixed reclaimed clay on top of the sheets. Why sheets as a barrier you ask? It does slow the process a little bit and actually I find it evens out the drying a bit too. With the cotton sheet under the clay, i can also easily move it mid drying (with the aid of some ether friendly hands) #corisandlerpottery #corisandler

Im in a #littledish mood. This series has a single thumb rest or what ever you'd like to rest there. These were thrown off the hump and have a really elegant profile toward the foot (i'd like to think). My friend in Kyoto saysbthese would be awesome for creme brule. (Ive got to get our more often!!!) what about a little amuse bouche or appetizer. Also a delicious succulent dessert or home made sherbet. The list is endless. (Well maybe that takes it a bit far, but… what would you use it for?

This is another in my SUMMER WATERFALL SERIES. Shop update Monday may 29 10am pst. Corisandler.com Lots of flow, soft pastel colours ali g with some oceans blues. By the way, that circle on the bottom of the mug toubsee is a chop made for me by friends who live in Japan. It says Cori. And this particular Congi means something to the effect of a shining light passing or shooting through (please forgive me if this is badly misinterpreted) #shopupdate

Winter sea series here. This is a small flanged bowl that I throw off the hump. It has a deep recessed foot soball you need is a nail to hang it on the wall like a clay painting. No wires. No string. Just take it on and off the wall as you use it. We've just come out of a long winter here on #Vancouverisland where there was lots and lots of rain. The grey skies make for dark oceans with lots of waves. I always wonder what the sea lions and other sea creatures think of the suns castings in the ocean. Hmmmmm. Pondering that one still #corisandlerpottery

From my "Cloudy day at the beach" series of pots. Loving the thebicean I get to see the way the ocean responds to each day and the changing weather. When there are clouds over the ocean, there are all sorts of colours that The the can be on the surface of the water. This series imagines the clouds as they move with the wind -creating a kind of moving palette underneath. It's quite breathtaking watching the speed that this wet canvas can change. #corisandlerpottery

I absolutely love it when people who have bought my work send me back images of it in use. I just received this image along with the loveliest note. This is one of my Cinderella coach mugs. #potsinaction it has about 7 glazes on it, breaking and falling into the crevices, pooling and doing all the things you hope a glaze will do. I'll be making another batch of Cinderella coach mugs pretty soon. Various colours coming. What colours would you imagine on them. ???

Another little handmade #pottery wine sipper. Pretty feathers inside the rim where the glazes overlapped and snow like blue crystals on the outside breaking slightly olive. This really feels lovely to the touch. Again this was a shift from my slow cooling and firing to a fast fire and 15 minute hold then off. Wow. Love the results. Your thoughts please? A slow fire just gives me the lighter #blue all fused together to create very matte #surface, this one gives me lots of variation in the #glaze

Just loaded last one from the #anagama #woodfiredpottery to my webshop. I was holding ontobit for a bit but… I'm ready to send it off to a good home now. I love how both sides of a woodfired pot are quite distinct from each other. This was fired over 80+ hours using about 6.5 cords of wood. Mostly fur. This is a 10oz mugs for all of you who have been asking for smaller mugs too. I can hardly describe how comfortable this handle is to hold. It's really nice. It's #12 on my site. Corisandler.com
