Big hello out to everyone. Thanks so much for all the “well wishes” and the “get betters” and the “I miss seeing you online”. So … until I am back in the studio streaming to you all, I thought I would just Sybil am feeling way better, getting healthier with my sights on some very needed surgery – not likely for about a year or so but on the track to preparing for it. I am getting stronger and my teeth are tingling to be able to get my hands back on clay for more than just a short sprint in the studio. Thanks so much again for all your kind words. You really do mean the world to me. – you know who you all are. #gratitude

Leaving alert bay, BC today. So great to just get away for a couple of nights. A change of scenery is always good inspiration – and when you talk about art, there are masks and totems both new and very old almost anywhere you look around the island. This mask was at the pier at the front of a roofed shelter you can stand at while watching out at the harbour. (The top image here). Is there a place you like to go to rejuvenate your artistic juices?

On Alert Bay off Northern Vancouver Island. This is a totem pole outside the museum here. If you are visiting Vancouver Island, do yourself a treat and get to alert bay to see the collection of repatriated masks right here. What a history. I really love in a magical place just a 3 hr drive from here (okay, plus a ferry ride too) but seriously so inspiring. Makes me wish I was a student carver learning from some of the most insanely talented First Nations wood carvers right here. I’ll be getting back to my clay studio pretty soon. Exciting to be able to get back to making pots. Has anything inspired you lately? Sharzies please.

Media ReleaseNovember 9, 2017 Governments Must Intervene to Stop Marine Harvest in B.C. The Council of Canadians is calling on the federal and #B.C. provincial governments to intervene and prevent Marine Harvest from removing #FirstNation observers from their Atlantic #salmonfarms In the #BroughtonArchipelago. “The people of the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw, Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis, Namgis and Mamalilikala Nations have more legitimate right to be on this territory than Marine Harvest,” says Alice de Wolff, National Board member of the #CouncilofCanadians. The observers on two farms received an order to leave by 5 PM Thursday, November 9, in a letter from Marine Harvest. The Council of Canadians has called on both governments to engage in ‘nation-to-nation’ negotiations with the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw, Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis, Namgis and Mamalilikala First Nations. They are united in their insistence that these Atlantic salmon farms be removed from their territories and have demanded that both levels of government not renew the required licences when they expire in June 2018. Observers from these First Nations have been at two fish farms owned by Marine Harvest since August. They are sounding the alarm about the disappearance of #wildsalmon in their territories and the health of the remaining fish. They have never given their approval to these farms. “The federal and provincial governments have an opportunity today to take action to recognize the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. They must actually negotiate in good faith with First Nations about the use of their territories, rather than allow Marine Harvest to bully with threats,” says de Wolff. -30- Contact: Harjap Grewal, B.C. and Yukon Regional Office, Council of Canadians hgrewal@canadians.org, 778 552 2099

https://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/328/445/349/ I know you can’t click this link but this bread and more like it are heading up to Northern BC tomorrow. There is an occupation -an observance of a fish farm who has Atlantic Islam in in our Pacific Ocean. There is so much wrong with this. Other marine life are dying as a result. The waters are being polluted, the farm in on First Nation territory without consent- the list goes on. If you can write that link down and pop it in your browser and sign the petition that would be amazing. If you can think about donating items if your nearby to vancouver island or financial donations, if your away, that would be well used. His is very important. For all our waters. For all our futures. TAKE ACTION NOW – PETITIONhttps://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/328/445/349/Our Wild Pacific Coast salmon is declining in numbers. Especially the sockeye and Chinook Salmon. Why? Fish farms are a crowded unhealthy environment for the Atlantic salmon they farm. The fish are covered in sea lice that is similar to headlice which can occur in over crowding in human populations. To combat the sea lice they are dumping pesticides into the pens. This creates a toxic environment that results in fish deformity and spreads to other fish eating mammals including people who eat farm fish. PETITIONS:Demand the BC government revoke fish farm licenses and prevent further restocking.

Happy dancing in the #pottery studio. Kiln made it to temp and I can tell because my #Bartlettcontroller reads CPLT (complete) and tells me it took 15.47 hours. Sounds about right. Eachbkiln load takes a different amount of time even though I am aiming for the same temperature. In part, It depends on how full or tightly or loosely the kiln is loaded. It’s also telling me the current temperature inside is in the 900,s F and still way to hot to open it up. This is the hard part folks. I have some new glaze combos in there and I’m like a kid in Xmas eve waiting for the morning to get here already. #corisandlerpottery

Just sitting around with friends and all these various mugs are on the table. Thought I'd just take a snap #corisandlerpottery Making mugs is a real treat for me. I love the mug. I love what it represents I love the experiences we have with our favourite mug and I love the process of choosing a mug for your specific moment in your day. What goes into a choice? Is it colour, feel, weight, size, memory of past moments with that mug and perhaps a friend you last shared a cafe/tea moment with. Donyou love to touch it and caress it. Do younlikenyourbhandbtobslide over a slick shiny surface or do you like your hand to stumble and rub up against texture and relief. Is it the handle that draws you in. So much here. #mug #coffelife #teacup #myfavouritemug

Glaze mixing mistake: always take a sample and make a test tile before fixing the mistake. This was a glaze that was usually quite a chalky matte bluebglaze with bits of sugar like crystals. Added too much gerstley borate and decided to draw a test tile before fixing it. I'm in love with this new glaze. The feel is butter smooth and has both satin and shine as you can see – the chemistry also changed the blue to this green mint – holy crow. That's cool! #corisandlerpottery #glazerecipes #glazechemistry #pottery

Just looking around my studio at the high shelves where I've placed some pots from different eras. This was a perfume bottle turned into a ewer. The spout wasn't balanced well in terms of the whole shape. so it stayed here. There was still enough about the piece that I liked not to trash it. Having old pots around me reminds me of where I have been. And where I am. Working with clay is a journey. Sometimes I have something to say and sometimes the clay has something to say. Respect. Respect respect to all my fellow potters who make the choice everyday to work with this fascinating basic material and make our world more beautiful or more interesting. Whether you beautify surroundings or question what exists through and by your craft, I admire each one of you and am grateful to be counted in your company. #humbled #potterycommunity #corisandlerpottery

Part of my Salish Sea series. Time to be making another batch of these. I throw and alter the mug while still moist, add some stamp work and manipulate the claybwithybfingers on both the inside and outside of the mug. The handle is pulled directly off the mug at leatherhard. For me, this always seems to be the most organic looking and feeling handles on my work. Slipbtrailing happens at leather hard stage as well. I like makingugs that are tall and narrow at the mouth, round and vuluptous like the Cinderella coach mugs and square and wide similar to this one. What's your favourite shape? Why? Chime in if you wish
